M = C × (t/12) / (1 - (1 + t/12)^(-n))

Où :
M = mensualité
C = capital emprunté
t = taux annuel (en décimal, ex: 0.05 pour 5%)
n = nombre de mois

Exemple :
Capital : 15 000€
Taux : 4.5% (0.045)
Durée : 48 mois

M = 15 000 × (0.045/12) / (1 - (1 + 0.045/12)^(-48))
M = 15 000 × 0.00375 / (1 - 0.8356)
M = 56.25 / 0.1644
M = 342.15€/mois

• Taux nominal : 4.5%
• Mensualité hors assurance : 342€
• Assurance : 0.35% du capital = 52.50€/an = 4.38€/mois
• Mensualité totale : 342 + 4.38 = 346.38€
• Frais dossier : 100€

Total remboursé : (346.38 × 48) + 100 = 16 726€
Coût crédit : 16 726 - 15 000 = 1 726€
TAEG ≈ 5.2%

  • Crédit 15 000€ : 45-75€/an
  • Sur 4 ans : 180-300€ total
  • Impact mensualité : +4-6€/mois

Garanties couvertes

  • ✅ Décès
  • ✅ PTIA (invalidité totale)
  • ✅ IPT (invalidité partielle)
  • ⚠️ Perte d'emploi (optionnelle)
💡 Bon à savoir : Vous pouvez refuser l'assurance de la banque et choisir une assurance externe (délégation d'assurance), souvent moins chère.

A consumer loan is a loan intended to finance the purchase of goods or services excluding real estate acquisition. There are several types: auto/motorcycle loan (€5,000 to €50,000), home improvement loan (€3,000 to €75,000), personal loan (€1,000 to €50,000), revolving credit (€500 to €10,000) and debt consolidation (€10,000 to €100,000). Maximum amounts vary by type and your profile. Durations: from 12 months (1 year) to 84 months (7 years), sometimes 120 months for renovations. Difference with mortgage: amounts < €75,000, durations < 10 years, no mortgage guarantee. Allocated credit (auto, renovations) is linked to a specific purchase with supporting documents. Personal loan is unallocated: free use without justification. Revolving credit is a permanently available cash reserve but with very high rates (8-18%).

The monthly payment is calculated with the formula: M = C × (r/12) / (1 - (1 + r/12)^(-n)). Where M = monthly payment, C = borrowed capital, r = annual rate in decimal (e.g.: 0.045 for 4.5%), n = number of months. Concrete example: auto loan €18,000, rate 4.8%, duration 60 months. M = €18,000 × (0.048/12) / (1 - (1 + 0.048/12)^(-60)). M = €18,000 × 0.004 / (1 - 0.7864). M = €72 / 0.2136. M = €337/month. WITH INSURANCE (0.35% of capital): monthly insurance = (€18,000 × 0.0035) / 12 = €5.25/month. Total monthly payment = €337 + €5.25 = €342.25/month. Total repaid = €342.25 × 60 = €20,535. Loan cost = €20,535 - €18,000 = €2,535 (including interest €2,220 + insurance €315). Monthly rate is annual rate ÷ 12. The longer the duration, the higher the interest but the lower the monthly payment.

The APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is THE reference rate for comparing loans. It includes: nominal rate + borrower insurance + processing fees + all mandatory fees. It's the REAL annualized cost of your loan. Simplified calculation: APR ≈ (Total loan cost / Borrowed capital / Duration in years) × 100. Example: €15,000 loan over 48 months (4 years). Nominal rate 4.5%, insurance 0.35%, processing fee €150. Monthly payment excluding insurance: €342. Monthly insurance: (€15,000 × 0.0035) / 12 = €4.38. Total monthly payment: €346.38. Total repaid: (€346.38 × 48) + €150 = €16,776. Loan cost: €16,776 - €15,000 = €1,776. APR = (€1,776 / €15,000 / 4) × 100 = 2.96% per year → APR ≈ 5.3%. Difference nominal rate / APR: nominal ignores insurance and fees. APR is always HIGHER than nominal. Legal obligation: APR must appear on any loan offer. ALWAYS compare APRs, never just nominal rates.

NO, borrower insurance is NOT legally mandatory for a consumer loan (unlike mortgage where it is almost systematic). BUT it is strongly recommended as it protects you. Average cost: 0.30% to 0.50% of borrowed capital per year. Example €20,000 loan: insurance = €20,000 × 0.0035 = €70/year or €5.83/month. Over 5 years: €350 total. Covered guarantees: Death (full repayment of remaining capital), PTIA (Total and Irreversible Loss of Autonomy), IPT (Total Permanent Disability, often > 66%), IPP (Partial Permanent Disability > 33%, optional), Job Loss (optional, +0.20-0.30%). Insurance delegation: you can REFUSE the bank's insurance and choose external insurance (Lagarde law), often 30-50% cheaper. The bank cannot refuse if equivalent guarantees. Advice: compare at least 3 external insurances before accepting the bank's. Comparison sites: Magnolia, Metlife, April.

Rates vary by loan type, amount, duration and your borrower profile. NEW AUTO LOAN: 2.5% to 6.5%, average 4%. Manufacturer promotions possible at 0.9-1.9%. USED AUTO LOAN: 3% to 7.5%, average 5%. Higher rate as depreciated vehicle. HOME IMPROVEMENT LOAN: 2.8% to 8%, average 4.5%. Best rates for eco-renovation (PTZ, eco-PTZ). PERSONAL LOAN: 3.5% to 10%, average 6%. Unallocated so higher rate. REVOLVING CREDIT: 8% to 18%, average 12%. TO AVOID: prohibitive rates. DEBT CONSOLIDATION: 3% to 9%, average 5.5%. 2026 usury rate (legal ceiling): Loan < €3,000: 21.16%, Loan €3,000-6,000: 13.19%, Loan > €6,000: 6.78%. Factors influencing rate: personal contribution (rate reduction 0.5-1%), permanent vs fixed-term contract (reduction 0.3-0.5%), high income, no overdraft, banking history, duration (shorter = better rate). Negotiation possible: compare 3-4 banks, create competition.

Your borrowing capacity depends on your maximum debt ratio: 35% of your net monthly income (33% before 2021, raised to 35% since). Formula: Maximum monthly payment = (Net income × 35%) - Current charges. Then: Borrowable capital = Max monthly payment × (1 - (1 + r/12)^(-n)) / (r/12). Example single €2,500 net/month, no charges: Max monthly payment = €2,500 × 35% = €875/month. Loan 4.5% over 60 months: Capital = €875 × (1 - (1.00375)^(-60)) / 0.00375 = €875 × 51.73 = €45,264. Example couple €4,500 net, mortgage €800: Remaining capacity = (€4,500 × 35%) - €800 = €775/month. Loan 5% over 48 months: Capital = €775 × (1 - (1.00417)^(-48)) / 0.00417 = €775 × 42.58 = €33,000. WARNING: bank calculates debt on ALL your loans (mortgage + consumer + revolving). If already 25% mortgage debt, 10% remains for consumer. Other criteria: minimum living expenses (€400-500/person), residual savings (3 months charges), job stability.

Both options have advantages and disadvantages. DEALER CREDIT (manufacturer captives: Stellantis Bank, RCI Bank, Volkswagen Bank): ADVANTAGES = Speed (approval in 48h), Aggressive promotions (0.9-2.9%), Insurance/warranty packages, Ease (all on site). DISADVANTAGES = Sometimes inflated rates outside promo, Expensive mandatory insurance, Little negotiation possible, Less transparent. CLASSIC BANK CREDIT: ADVANTAGES = Competitive rates (3-5%), Negotiation possible, Free choice of insurance, Total transparency, Easy comparison. DISADVANTAGES = Longer delay (1-2 weeks), Stricter file, Contribution sometimes required. WINNING STRATEGY: 1) Request dealer simulation AND 2-3 banks. 2) Compare APRs (not just nominal rate). 3) Check insurance cost separately. 4) Negotiate with best offer in hand. 5) If dealer promo < 3%, take it. 6) Otherwise, favor bank + insurance delegation. Real example: auto €25,000, dealer 3.9% + mandatory insurance 0.50% = APR 4.8%, monthly payment €460. Bank 4.2% + external insurance 0.30% = APR 4.7%, monthly payment €455. Savings: €300 over 60 months.

YES, you can ALWAYS repay early (totally or partially) a consumer loan. It's a legal RIGHT since Lagarde law 2010. Authorized penalties BUT capped: Total or partial repayment > €10,000: MAXIMUM compensation = 1% of repaid capital if > 1 year remaining, 0.5% if < 1 year remaining. Repayment < €10,000: NO penalty possible. Example: €25,000 loan, you repay €15,000 early, 3 years left. Max penalty = €15,000 × 1% = €150. Interest savings: about €1,500. Balance: +€1,350 savings. WARNING: some banks apply 0% penalty (check contract). Procedure: 1) Written or email request to bank. 2) Updated schedule within 10 days. 3) Amount transfer. 4) Early repayment certificate. Interest savings calculation: Remaining capital × Rate × Remaining duration. Example: €18,000 left, 5% rate, 30 months left. Interest saved = €18,000 × 0.05 × 2.5 = €2,250 - penalties €180 = +€2,070 net. Tip: Regular partial repayments (€500/month) without penalties if < €10,000/year.

ALWAYS favor personal loan except very specific case. PERSONAL LOAN: Fixed defined amount, Fixed duration (12-84 months), FIXED rate (3.5-10%), CONSTANT monthly payments, Defined end, PREDICTABLE cost. Example €10,000, 5%, 48 months = €230/month, cost €1,040. REVOLVING CREDIT: Permanent cash reserve, VARIABLE duration, VARIABLE and HIGH rate (8-18%), Variable monthly payments according to use, Automatic reconstitution (trap), UNPREDICTABLE cost. Example €10,000 used, 12%, if monthly payment €200: duration 79 months (!), cost €5,800 (!!!). COMPARISON €10,000: Personal 5% = €1,040 interest. Revolving 12% = €5,800 interest. Difference: +€4,760 paid MORE (×5.6!). CASES where revolving acceptable: Small amount < €2,000, Very short term < 6 months, Guaranteed quick repayment, One-time bailout. REVOLVING DANGER: Debt spiral (permanent use), Usurious rates, Difficult to settle, Encourages overconsumption. Advice: If you have a revolving in progress, CONVERT IT to personal (massive savings). 2010 law: bank OBLIGED to propose conversion every 3 years.

Use comparators (Meilleurtaux, Empruntis, Cafpi). 2) NEGOTIATE: with best offer in hand, request alignment. Argument: "Bank X offers 3.8%, can you do better?". 3) CONTRIBUTE 10-20%: rate reduction 0.5-1%. Example auto €20,000, contribution €4,000 (20%) → rate 3.2% instead of 4.5%. 4) CHOOSE SHORT DURATION: 36 months instead of 60 = -0.5% rate + massive interest savings. 5) CARE FOR FILE: Stable permanent contract > 1 year, regular income, no overdraft 6 months, residual savings. 6) DOMICILE YOUR INCOME: bank grants -0.3-0.5% rate if domiciliation. 7) GROUP PRODUCTS: account + card + insurance = -0.2-0.4%. 8) ENJOY PROMOTIONS: auto manufacturers 0.9-2.9% key periods (January, September). 9) DELEGATE INSURANCE: 30-50% total cost savings (Magnolia, Metlife). 10) TIMING: negotiate end quarter/year (banks' commercial objectives). Real optimized profile example: Permanent contract 3 years, €3,000 net, 20% contribution, domiciliation, external insurance → obtained rate 2.9% vs 5.5% standard = €2,400 savings on €20,000/60 months loan.
